MINING SECTOR:
Security within the mining sector is critical, it is an area often targeted by syndicates and employees working at the mines and various processing plants such as smelters.
The primary security focuses in the mining sector are:
- Protection and containment of product
- Safety of all personnel - Occupational Health and Safety
Resulting from the strong focus on Security Systems and the flexibility of our service offering; Exigent Security Group has become a main stream player in the provision of security related services to the mining sector.
Services we specialize in are:
Perimeter Control
This is the securing of the perimeter of the facility. This is carried out through the manned monitoring of the fence / boundary lines and through constant patrolling by highly trained Protection Officers who use proactive measures to secure the area. This often necessitated the use of night time ‘stake outs’ and night vision equipment.
In addition to the patrolling function, technology; utilized correctly, can play a significant role in the detection of thieves and the prevention of theft.
Access / Egress Controls
Access and Egress controls are critical to crime prevention and to enforcing the adherence to Occupational Health. Theft is minimized as is the resultant liability of a claim resulting from a visitor being injured on the mine or processing plants.
Controls cover the following areas:
Personnel: This includes the validation of all employees and contractors accessing the mine. Identity Documents, Employee Identification Cards, Tool Lists and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) are checked. Visitors to the mine are vetted and inducted as to health and safety awareness on the mine. Where applicable they are issued with the necessary Personal Protection Equipment. Searches are conducted on staff members departing site.
Vehicles - Private / Commercial Carriers and Contractors: All vehicles go through a stringent vetting process aligned to the mines policy and procedures prior to authorised access to the mine. This includes the vetting of Drivers Licenses, Registration Numbers, the necessary PPE required on the vehicle as well as the declaration of personal equipment such as lap tops and tools that are in possession of the driver. When leaving the site all vehicles are thoroughly searched and all equipment checked against the declaration.
Waybills and Weighbridge Controls: This entails the weighing of all vehicles to verify and record the weight and quantity of product being removed by commercial transporters. Reports are then submitted and the process is repeated by the receiving destination to ensure no pilferage has taken place on route. This also covers the removal of any mine equipment which is recorded in the waybill process to monitor all assets of the mine.
Surveillance:
Control Room Monitoring: Control room monitors are highly trained individuals who monitor Cameras and Alarms Systems. They have a full working knowledge of the policies and procedures the must be adhered to and use target monitoring to detect areas of concern and potential risk. The control room is the hub of communication and the central point for the recording of all activities and occurrence book entries. Alarm monitoring and response are controlled within this function
Special operations: Covert and Overt Surveillance is carried out as a methodology of pro active crime prevention or as an assist to an investigation. This includes the use of Camera and Audio technology as well as physical stake outs.
